Inspired by Haydn's Symphony No. 94, "Surprise"
The strings introduce a simple, folk-like melody in extreme pianissimo. Upon its repetition, the full orchestra and timpani suddenly crash into a fortissimo chord—startling the listener, before the music gently fades back into silence. Legend says Haydn wrote this to wake up napping nobles.
This floral work captures that extreme dynamic shift, translating "sudden awakening from stillness" into visual drama. The evolving floral forms mirror the theme and variations, balancing explosive bursts of color with soft elegance, revealing Haydn's signature wit and vitality.
